Saturday — March 30th
Finally winter is over! The 2024 drag racing season is underway. We got going a couple minutes before the advertised 11:30 am start time. 115 cars raced with us on a partly sunny day, temps in the low 50’s, not bad for late March. A lot of full on race cars and some fast street driven cars made several passes during the event. We have a brand new racer in the Junior Dragster class, Braxton Sencindiver who is just 7 years old made some of his required license run passes. He drove very well too. Good to have Braxton and his dad Josh and mom Brooks as part of our racing family. Ronnie Proctor brought the Top Sportsman Mustang and made an all motor hit then a full 1/8 mile pass with nitrous, how about .98 sixty foot and 4.32 @ 162 mph on a mild tune up. Steve Dress made some passes in his 68 Firebird which now has a new engine, 10.70’s @ 124 mph. Another Pontiac racer Tom Bunty had has 90’s Trans Am which had given him fits the last couple of years made three nice passes, 14.0’s @ 98 mph. Joe Stanley and Greg Orris have their new 1000+ hp Dodge Demos making low 9 second passes @ 147 mph. Crazy fast street legal cars for sure. We had 58 cars enter the $1,000.00 to win all run race. Well we two rounds in and then the predicted rain hit right at 4 pm. Money for this deal was split amongst the remaining racers. All in all a really good opening day.
Did I mention the dynamite race track, right from the get go cars launched hard and consistent through out the day. All winter much maintenance was performed on the track and grounds. The food stand was worked on, new radios, PA speakers upgraded, new heat and A/C in the tower, one new four wheeler and the others got tires etc. and a lot of other improvements were performed too. A huge shout out to Jake Landes, Bub Casto, Elmer Wachter and all the Wachter family members for their hard work and money spent. We have one new employee, Garreth who will work in the food stand. Thank you Steve Dickey announcing a good bit, I always say he certainly adds something anytime he is with us.
Saturday and Sunday are Test & Tune days. Oh, and check out our new website, it looks good and easy to navigate. See you this weekend at Mason Dixon Dragway!
