This was the last race of year, the 38th annual Turkey Race that nearly was cancelled. Track staff started drying the wet track at 5am and with temps in 40’s and low clouds and no wind the track just didn’t want to adequately dry. But finally some help….mother nature stepped in with clear skies, some sun and wind the track was now good enough to go racing. For the second time ever we opted to make the race a 330’ event, there was still some slight dampness far into the shut down area. Ok, start time now three plus hours late, the Junior Dragsters went first. Track Champion Cole Rudy won over Harley Ely, semi racers were Laney Thomas and Noah Dustin. Now the big cars. How about Pro with 93 entries and in the end Steve Lenig over Doug Lindahl, Mark Decker took third spot. Super had Dee Cleaver over Cecil Bruce with Scott Drayer taking third place. Lastly Trophy which had its biggest field by far this year, 36 racers, Jeremy Manford beat Andy Koretzky, Rick Waxter was third. What a season ending day. It was wet gloomy early and only few were there before 9am or so then the racers and race fans rolled in. We ended up with 170 racers and lots of die hard fans too. We got done at 6:40pm just as it got much colder. A shout out to the team Mason Dixon staff for the long hours to get the track race ready, nearly seven hours. And yes Steve Dickey announced a good bit and did great too. Thanks Steve! He made it to 20 events this year.
To me this is kind of a sad time no racing til March, I’ll miss the co-workers and track management who are BEST at what they do and of course our great racers that are really hard to beat. We also have a great group of track sponsor / partners, we can’t thank them enough and lastly what a loyal group of race fans that are here on a regular basis. Thanks Mike Parker, our web designer and Russell Toms Friends of Mason Dixon Dragway Facebook page moderator. Keep watching Mason Dixon Dragway website and also the Friends of Mason Dixon Dragway Facebook page for ongoing updates. I’d like wish everyone a great Merry Christmas and a Happy healthy safe New Years……it’ll be Spring before we know it!
