Friday. —  August 15th

This was a Test & Tune event leading to the next days 11th annual VW meet. We got underway at 6pm and about 7:30 pm we ran an all VW Hi Roller race. In the final Tim Norwood of Knoxville Tn. won out over David Snowden Jr. with Jake Tucker and Johnathon Abrams taking the semis. Good entertaining race for $1,100.00 to the winner, runner up receiving $300.00. There were a number of hard charging PRO STICK racers making many passes, there 70+ entries. We finished up about 10pm.

Show cars rolled in early and at 11:30am we went racing.everybody ran well despite the warm temperatures. We got one round of time runs completed then out of nowhere it rained. After an hour or so our dedicated track staff got track in good shape and racing resumed. Once again bigger storm rolled in and drenched us. By then it was 6 pm or so and way to wet to dry the track to continue. We had to call a halt to the event.
Ok thoughts on the event. We can’t say enough about Scott Poacaro and his family and staff for their hard work leading up to and on the day of the event also. Great job! A huge thanks to the VW racers and crew members and especially all the race fans. There were many vendors participating too. A big thanks to Cooker’s V-Dubs for bringing some beautifully constructed street cars and all out race cars. A shout out to Eric Kitchen and his Pro Stick racers, they were fast, big wheel stands out of most of them, they are just fun to watch. The track was excellent as cars hooked hard and went straight, very nicely done. Thanks to RFC chaplains Chris Crawford and Bill Smith for an excellent service on race day. I had announcer help too as Steve Dickey did good bit of announcing with me on Saturday. He loves VWs. This still was an overall good weekend despite the weather issues. We look forward to this event again next year.
This Saturday is the Mid Maryland Ford Meet, show cars, vendors and drag racing. See you this Saturday at Mason Dixon Dragway!
