Friday. —. June 27th

This was a Test & Tune event that ran from 6 to 10pm leading into the Rocking Chair Nationals the next day. It was damp and misty in many areas near by but stayed dry the entire event. we had about 65 cars making many passes up til 10 pm. Many of the racers including several Pro Stick cars were testing getting ready for the next day. Oh yeah, Hain Dominick and Gary Gore each celebrated their birthdays over the weekend. This was an overall good Test & Tune event.
Saturday. —  June 28th
This was the 12th annual Rocking Chair Nationals event that got going real early with the car show entries and then about 10am the awards presentations also got underway. Many plaques were handed out by Bill Pratt, a very fine announcer and excellent drag race historian. Gary Gore also led this part of program too. Now for the drag racing. We had 211 cars completing in Pro, Super, Nostalgia, Pro Stick, Outlaw Pontiac, MANDRA and Exhibition classes. Everyone got one time run then Elmer Wachter track owner performed the invocation and played our national anthem. Now about the weather…. Which has seemed to play a part in almost every event this year. It was really warm and humid and sure enough after two rounds completed a wicked storm rolled in with heavy rain, gusty winds, some hail and lightning. After waiting it out about a half an hour or so we had to call it a day. All racers still in competition split the purse evenly. Though we didn’t finish we still had a good overall event. Once again a big thanks to all those that attended, the Mt. Atnea Fire Company, car show people, racers crew and family members, our great race fans and lastly track management and staff. And as always Steve Dickey did a great job co-announcing the race portion of the day. Well done everyone!
Ok, the Fourth of July Fire Cracker event this weekend is coming soon, Friday July Fourth is an evening Test & Tune, Saturday and Sunday are the big SBRA races, check the flyer for all the details. See you this weekend at Mason Dixon Dragway!
