Friday  —  August 16th
This was a very well attended Test & Tune event leading into the next days 10th Annual VW Meet. We got going right at 6 pm as scheduled with a large turnout of our usual Test & Tune racers and a good amount of the VW cars and Pro-Stick cars getting ready for tomorrow. The weather bit us just a little as we had light misty rain showers around 8 pm that slowed us down for about a half our or so. Our track crew did a great job drying the track quickly and we kept going finishing up about 10:15 pm. Something new at Mason Dixon, we now have new track lighting that was turned on about 8 pm and by the time it was fully dark you could really see how great the lighting works, incredible….it looked as bright as being at a major league baseball night game. There are still four right side lights to be changed and will be replaced this week. What a great addition to the facility! A big thanks to all the raced and to the bigger than usual number of our loyal race fans that attended.
Saturday  —  August 17th
The weather…..we got lucky with this one, a big batch of heavier rain headed our way about 3 pm but thankfully fell apart and we had just a couple of brief sprinkles that hardly slowed us down at all. On the pit side of the track we had all the show cars and vendors on display. Mt. Lena Pool set up their food stand tent and sold outstanding breakfast and lunch sandwiches and French fries. We got the racing underway right a 11 am as scheduled. The racing itself was really good, we had 7 classes for the VWs and Eric Kitchen’s Pro-Stick cars. There was some some breakage and starting line oil clean ups, most weren’t that bad. Pro-Stick had 40 entries, Chris Shaffer won out over Greg Corbin, Colton Kirchner was third. We finished right about 5 pm. A huge driver behind this whole VW meet over many years is our friend Scott Pocaro, what a job he does promoting and organizing this yearly event. Thanks also goes out to Eric Kitchen and his 40 Pro-Stick racers that put on a great show. A shout out to our track staff for keeping the event running smoothly. That’s quite a job keeping 8 classes of cars in order in the lanes and getting them down the track. Once again Steve Dickey was with us and did a good bit of announcing, he added a lot as he is a huge VW and Pro-Stick fan, thanks Steve. Lastly we thank all that participated this weekend, many were here both days. the racers, crew and family members, Scott Pocaro and his helpers, Mt. Lena Pool, all of our dedicated Mason Dixon staff and owners, our sponsor / partners and especially our great race fans. We can’t do this without everyone’s support! This weekend, the Saturday Test & Tune is an evening one, 6 to 10 pm. Sunday is our 27th Annual Mid-Maryland Ford Event. See you at Mason Dixon Dragway this weekend!
