Saturday — Nov 21st

This was a Test & Tune event along with a $1,000.00 to win no entry fee Gamblers Race. Just before we got underway we had a special match race with our track manager Jake Landes in his 650 hp supercharged Corvette against his dad Chris Lil in his 485 hp Dodge Challenger. Jake got there first with a 10.65 @129mph and Chris followed with a tire spinning pass but did log a 109 mph top end speed. The first time they’ve ever run each other, good to see this happen. We started on time a 11am under cloudy skies but temps near 60 degrees with numerous test & tune 1/4 passes then went to round one of our 1/8 mile Gamblers Race. Things got a little unusual as we had three oil downs, two were coolant one an oil related deal and it took awhile to them clean up. In the Gamblers it was Frank Falter IV in his “Candy Man” dragster winning over Rick Wenger, Dahryl Clark and Keith Lehman were the semi racers. We had 70 entries and stuck around a little over an hour longer than scheduled wrapping this up at 4:10 pm.

Well, the 2020 season is over. With losing all of March, April and May races once we got going we had great support from our racers, their family and crew members then eventually our race fans. Many races were well attended especially the five day SBRA event in October with a record one day car count on Saturday of 543 entries. A big thanks to all the supported us, racers and spectators, sponsors and Mason Dixon staff and owners, we made a messed up year work!! Keep checking our website / facebook pages for updates, schedule etc. through out the winter. I will certainly miss my racers and co-workers in the off season. Everyone please stay safe, have a great Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years holidays and get ready for a better 2021!!

Message from Track Operator, Still having troubles with glass bottles so the 2021 Season will impart a rate increase for entry for those racers and crew members that feel they must have glass bottles to exist, maybe a nipple on the end and a security blanket would explain their need for glass. Thank all of the racers that enjoy a local track with a family atmosphere, It is all made possible by the great group of people working at the track. I appreciate their efforts in making events work smoothly and am looking forward to working with them in the future.
Happy Thanksgiving to all, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Keep an EYE on the website for upcoming news.

Saturday — Nov. 14th

We started right at 9:30 am sharp with our Junior Dragsters with 13 entries. The track worked great all day long even the when temps dropped quick after sunset, 42 degrees at the end. The racers and staff did a great job keeping the event moving at a quick pace. Steve Dickey was with us announcing with Elmer and I all day adding a lot to the event. A good, fun day, great racing and everyone was fast too. Also long time racer, Marvin Lucas stopped by to see the great show. He is 85 years young and still loves our sport, good to see him again. We did opt to cancel Sunday as the forecast was not looking good, and sure enough, high winds and afternoon rains rolled in. A good call.

This Saturday is it, a limited 75 car Test & Tune, 11am to 3pm finishes out the 2020 race season. If over 60 Entries there will be a FREE $1000 Gamblers Race
See you at Mason Dixon Dragway this Saturday!

In the final Dave Gillespie driving Wayne and Tammy Skelly’s 73 Pontiac Ventura won over Tammy Gray. This was Dave’s first time racing after a 32 year break from the sport, he was plainly killer on the tree with his win. Well we tried. It looked like we might miss the rain but about 10 am a cold soaking rain backed in over the mountain and soaked the place and we had to cancel. This coming weekend we have a Street Nite event, Qualifying starts at 1 pm. A Test & Tune event on Sunday. Don’t miss the Street Nite show, the last of Street Nite races of the year. See you the next two weekends at Mason Dixon DragwayI

Saturday — Oct. 24th

This was another very good Street Nite race. We started earlier at 1 pm with cloudy skies and temps in the high 50’s, great and fast racing conditions. We started with our 23 Quick 16 entries with a field that had several 4 second cars and a 5.55 bump to make the field. In the finals Mike Daymude used an .011 light and a one over 5.16 to take the win over Cory Carper. Semi racers were Bobby Dunn and Derek Clark. The 5.90 Index class had 14 entries Rob Bowers won over Colby Imes. 6.50 Index class again had 25 entries, the class is really doing well, had Richie Burns on a single pass when Howard Lawson’s Camaro broke before the final. Drive In Street had 24 cars, with George Miller winning over David Celli. We had several Test & Tune cars, Boris Skoblov’s BMW turbo coup ran several 8.20 passes at 170 mph. The racing finished up at 7:20 pm just as it was getting breezy and chilly. Minimal issues, fast track and great racing too. Oh, we do one more Street Nite this year, Saturday Nov. 7th start time 1 pm. Don’t miss it.

Super got down to six cars that made a 6 way split of $430.00 each. Pro had Travis Hill winning over Danny Perry. We finished the 236 race entry show at 10:50 pm. Overall very good day one, was a sunny day well into the 70’s. Weather no issue.

Thursday — Oct. 15th

Day two started earlier. Weather again sunny in the 70’s. We managed to get most of the Gamblers race done we stopped on the weekday deal at 11 pm. splitting money to those still in the race. Very big Thursday car count, 363 entered round one.

Friday — Oct. 16th

If we were going to have weather issues it would be this day only, light rain was just west of the track but never moved over us, another rain free race day. This was a huge turnout of racers in all the classes, 443 entries. At 11:00 pm we still had a lot of racers still in, we opted to split the money than go on much later. Amazing racing again.

Saturday — Oct. 17th

A sunny but much cooler day, temps in the low 30’s over night but got to about 60 later in the day. Talk about a full house, 543 racers, a record number of entries ever at Mason Dixon, and they fit on the property too. First off new arrivals got a time run, then we went to the Race of Champions, round one. In Junior Dragster it was Eric Bowles winning over Cole Foskey, Super had Paul Burruss taking the win, Pro was won by Jeff Stewart. We then got the Gamblers races going, with the huge car count we ran til 12:30 am but still had many entries, we stopped and split money at that point.

Sunday — Oct. 18th

The main event! About 400 entries from the seven tracks all racers that qualified from their home track entered this no entry fee race. The Junior Dragsters started off at 9 am, 37 entries in the end, John Henry took the win with Peyton Bunch the runnerup. Now the big cars took the track at 11:30 am In Super it was Rich Loury over Mike Anderson, Pro had Tom Lilliard over Jay Woodward and in Bike Taylor Dunham over Clay Davies. Great, close racing all day. The new guys from Summerduck Dragway won the overall points, Mason Dixon second and last years Champs, Beavers Springs Dragway third. We finished up at 7:30 pm. Hardly any down time / clean up delays for the whole day and very few all weekend. Another great SBRA Bracket finals in the books!

Kudos to many this weekend. We thank our racers and the family / crew members for their cooperation all week long. The Mason Dixon staff worked five really long days, some slept in their cars Saturday night to be ready for the early Sunday start time. All my co-workers put in a great effort to make the event work. Track owners and management made all the good calls organizing and supervising the race. Both of our new SBRA tracks really enjoyed the event it seemed. To my count that I think is pretty close we were just 15 cars short of 2,000 entries for the five days. There was a minimal of breakage or down time and super great track prep / maintenance every day. Joe Martz did the invocation each day to get us started, thanks Joe. Gary Gore of Eastside was with us all week long, Hain Dominick though not here helped us with scoring of the final day from home. On a personal note, I missed the first three days recovering from surgery and Elmer Wachter, Steve Dickey and Courtney Suders shared announcing those three days. On Saturday and Sunday Tony Tumberello from South Mountain and again Courtney Suders announced off and on all day, I can’t thank them enough, great job too! There is no doubt some mistakes / omissions in this recap will be seen here which I apologize for in advance. Anyway, another outstanding SBRA Bracket Finals!

A NOTE FROM TRACK OPERATOR, Thank all the racers for participating in the SBRA Bracket Finals, Thank those also that Parked in the proper pit areas and respected the track. Thank all that participated in the Gamblers Races. Thank the Staff for professionally acting and administering the event. We always say we should do this and that for the next years event to make it better, but at this time I am not sure there will be a next year or next time. The rules we operate under are primarily for safety sake and when they are not adhered to I do not want to be part of that culture. I also see the writing of the keyboard cowboys complaining and condemning, but not person enough to voice their problem to the proper authority. My answer to them is to not come to a track you feel does not live up to you stringent expectations God only knows you must be perfect in all that you do. I hope your glass house is made of non shattering glass. Over the winter months I will decide the future of not only this event but also the tracks status.

This weekend a Street Nite race Sat. Oct. 24th, Sunday a Test and Tune. See you at Mason Dixon Dragway this coming weekend!

Saturday — Sept. 26th

This was a SBRA double-header race that fog and drizzle held up the start time by about three hours. After hours of track drying it was finally time to go racing. Junior Dragsters kicked off the weekend with 16 cars entered. In the final, Nathan Mendenhall took the win over Carleigh Forest, Jamain Dietz and Thomas Oates took the semi spots. Now the big cars, in a Super field of 50 entries Dave Churchey took the win over Roger Lewis with Al Hite the third place driver. What a win for Dave, it was his first time out with us this year, good effort for certain. Pro Driver had 73 entries and Chris Crawford winning out over Kevin Moore and Mark Harbaugh was third. Outlaw Pontiacs were here with 16 cars in round one. Chuck Hutlzler took the win over Mike Clay. The Pontiac gang has one more race for the year in our house, Steve Dress, Rodney Eichelberger and Mike Clay all jammed up at the top of the points list, anybody’s guess who the champ will be for 2020. It’ll be settled on Sunday Oct. 11th. Al’s Body Shop Trophy had 16 cars with Nathan Nicholson over Rocky Roach, both ended up getting the “Xmas Tree” trophies. What great racing all day and even with the late start and 188 entries we finished up at 9.35 PM. Well done all.

Sunday — Sept. 27th

Yes it was foggy but no mist or wet conditions so we started just before 9:30 am with 21 Junior Dragsters. Emma Henry took the win over Eric Bowles, Kevin Mendehall took third. Big cars got underway right at 11:30 am. The Super cars in a big field of 45 cars, had Allen Chamberlain running the table with consistent 5.30 ets and great lights also to defeat Jim Day in the final, Marcus Henry took third. Pro Driver had 74 entries and this time Mark Harbaugh won out over Britt Olson and Ken Dick was third. The real nice “Xmas Tree” trophies went to winner Rodger Twigg over Greg Orris. Again close, fast racing was the norm for day 2, 175 cars strong and we we finished up by 5:15 PM.

A big thanks to all racers, family and crewmembers and all the Mason Dixon staff and owners for a really good race. Very fun weekend. We are closed Oct 3rd and 4th. Great job by track staff and management and all of our racers and their crew members.

Sunday — Sept. 13th

This was a Test & Tune event with a fair amount of racers and crew members. We got underway at noon. Everyone made many passes of note though was Taylor Everson who now drives her late grandfathers street rod big block Chevy coupe, she made many passes, a best of 11.84 @ 112 mph. Weather again cooperated, temps in the 70’s cloudy at times but no rain, an overall good day. We finished up at 4 pm.

Next week we are closed for the NHRA Bracket Finals held in Numidia Pa. We will be back on Sept. 26th and Sept. 27th for SBRA bracket racing. We really did have a great Street Nite and our crew members and racers followed the Covid guidelines well. Best of luck to our Summit ET series racers this weekend at Numidia for the 2020 Bracket Finals. I’m going to try make one day there if possible. See you soon!

Friday — Sept 4th

This was a Test & Tune event and free Gamblers Race for a $500.00 winner take all deal. We had a great turnout with many of SBRA racers getting ready for the big weekend of racing. Well finally Nick Lindeman got his car out of “paint shop prison” and for his first racing action of the year the he took first place $500.00 purse winning over Cole Francis. We finished up about 10:45 pm. A good opening day for sure, not hot either, cool and nice once the sun went down.

Saturday — Sept 5th

Junior Dragsters took the track first, Parker Fields won out over Carleigh Forrest and Cameron Proctor took third. Parker won $400.00 for his big win, $200.00 of that money provided by Falter Candy Co. A big thanks to them. At 2 pm the big cars took the track. Again the Super Hi-Roller had Mark Gray winning Frank Falter IV. We finished up at 6:45 pm.

Comments on this event…..where do we start? First off the weather was fully cooperative all four days, high 70’s to low 80’s and not humid. We had a big turnout, 753 competitors for the four day race. We had great help from Scotty Bodmer with the two Hi – Roller races, he pitched this idea to us and carried out all that was required to make it work so well, thanks Scotty! As usual we had a great track to race on, cars were fast and consistent all weekend. All the staff worked the longer days to keep the program going. Bill Smith and Joe Martz did the invocation each day Toni Smith sang our National Anthem on Monday and was in her always top shelf form! Sponsors, The Falter Candy Company, Vince Fourcade / ATI Transmission, Jays Automotive, Al’s Body Shop, Paul Burruss, Bruce Combs Drywall, Coppermine Applicators, Mallow Construction Co., S & W Race Cars, Steve Henry, Al’s Body Shop and “This is Bracket Racing” magazine. Thanks to all. Hope I didn’t miss anyone. The racers were cooperative all four days, some had great weekends, Bob Ford winning 15 rounds in row to win Sunday and Monday. Dylan Moore, Rocky Moore, Mike Daymude all had good weekends. Over in Junior dragster, Thomas Oates winning Sunday and Parker Fields winning on Saturday and Monday, great job
Junior Racers.

This weekend, Saturday Sept. 12th is another Street Nite race, Sunday a Test & Tune event, see you at Mason Dixon Dragway this weekend!

Saturday — Aug. 22nd

This was a Test & Tune event that had enough cars to have our free entry, $1,000.00 to win Gamblers Race. Dylan Moore took the win over Greg Orris and Rick Wenger and Jason Day were semi racers, those four moved money around so all did well for the day. We had an excellent turnout even though it was another 90 degree plus day.

Sunday — Aug. 23rd

This was again a Test & Tune event with a $500.00 to win no entry fee Gamblers Race. Since we didn’t get to run our Ford event, Elmer decided that if a Ford won the race he would add another $100.00 to the pot. Of course Bobby Smith in his wheel standing Ford Mustang won over Mike Rogers with Dave Slusher Jr. the third place driver. Another good event and again it was 90 degrees late in the day as rain was moving in right at 4 pm. A big thanks to all that came out this weekend.

We have a Test & Tune Friday night and Street Nite on Saturday. See you this weekend at Mason Dixon Dragway!
Friday — Aug. 14th

This was a well attended Test & Tune event on the eve of our VW and Pro-Stick race. We had numerous VWs and Pro-Stick racers and other full on race cars and street cars making many passes on this cloudy overcast evening. Low et. for the VWs was Steve Hawes in his air cooled turbo bug, he ripped a 5.36 @ 136 mph pass. He later ran a 5.39 @ 135 mph. A bullet for sure. Pro-Stick’s Tim Riggleman managed a 7.91 @ 172 mph in his small block Mopar. We ran a 16 car Hi-Roller VW class, a 55 yr. old and up class and a Quick 4 also. Good racing, we finished just after 10 pm.

Saturday — Aug. 15th

We started out ok, weather very cloudy, dreary and occasional light mist and sprinkles slowed us down badly as it took from 11 am til 3 pm to get in one qualifier / time run. It was a stop and start affair but finally we got under way. We were able to complete three rounds of VW racing and two Pro-Stick rounds, the VW classes got to semi finals in all but one class and Pro-Stick got to 13 remaining cars still in the game. Finally about 7 pm a steady rain did us in, we called it a day. A very nice turnout of racers in both VW and Pro-Stick were in competition, considering the threatening forecasts of rain all week, we did well both days.

A big shout out to Scott Pacaro who runs / promotes the VW shows with us each year. Many of the VW racers travel a good distance to this race and again they showed up in big numbers despite the poor weather forecast. Thanks Scott for your hard work. The Mason Dixon crew gets a tip of the hat for all the work repeatedly drying and re-prepping the track after each rain shower and car oildowns. That was a lot of work and time consuming too. Bill Smith did the invocation and his wife Toni did a fabulous job singing the National Anthem as always! Considering weather issues we still had a really good event. This Saturday and Sunday are Test & Tune events, if there is 100 + cars we will have a $1,000.00 to win race, no entry fee. See you Saturday and Sunday at Mason Dixon Dragway!

Friday — Aug. 7th
This was to be a Test & Tune event but rain and thunder rolled in about 4 pm. and soaked the place causing the racing to be cancelled.

Saturday — Aug. 8th

This was our Street Nite race with the Md. Performance Center Real Street cars running with us. Qualifying got underway at 4 pm. Eliminations got underway about 8 pm. starting with Real Street first. Mike Berry ripped a 5.03 right off the trailer to get things going, four cars ran in the 5.0 range with sixty ft. times as fast as 1.16. In the final Mike Berry in the quickest car was a bit late on the tree and Shane Stymeist got the win. Justin Bowmaker and Steve Kent were the semi racers. There were 14 entries in the class. Great racing from them. In Quick 16 it was the Dave and Patti Smith entry winning over Jerry Williams in the final, Cory Carper and Mitch Willingham were the semifinalists. Five cars ran in the 4’s and the bump spot was a 5.62. In 5.90 Index Mike Shoop won over Will Woodyard, a 14 car field. In the 6.50 Index group Les Tobery won over Darrell Law. There 24 6.50 cars tonite a great turnout. We also had good fields of Pro, Limited and Drive In Street also. Great racing all night long. We did have a couple of bigger cleanups and some much smaller ones also so we did run late. We thank our racers and their crew members for the good turnout for this race. Outstanding track prep for the really fast Real Street and Quick 16 cars was evident, several 1.03 sixty ft. times turned in from the faster Quick 16 cars. An overall really good event.

This weekend, a Test and Tune on Friday night and on Saturday our 6th annual VW race and show with the Pro Stick racers added to the event. Will be a good one. See you this weekend at Mason Dixon Dragway!

Friday — July 31st

This was another Test & Tune event on another very warm evening. Not a real big turnout but all the racers made plenty of passes from 6 pm til 10 pm. Greg Dahl’s Harley ran four passes, 7.99, 8.06, 7,88 and lastly his fastest run on this bike ever, a 7.83 @ 175 mph. A real rocket for sure. Mike Balch’s Harley also made several sorting out passes, low 10’s @ 140 mph. Both these Harley riders make the trip from Uniontown Pa. Wade Farner and Nathan Nicholson were getting ready our 6.50 Index class on Street Nite, Aug. 8th with 6.50 passes. Steve Jeffers had his great looking 67 Camaro going into the 9’s on several passes. Travis Byers in his turbo Fox body Mustang ran an 8.98 @ 149 mph towards the end of the night. A fun night.

Saturday — Aug. 1st

We got underway at 12:30 pm with our Junior Dragsters, 14 entries on this day one of the two day Summit ET series race. Cole Jennings took the win over Mary Elizabeth Bannister. Dylan Moore and Parker Fields were the semifinalists. By the way, Mary Elizabeth made her last ever Junior Dragster races this weekend as she will attend Auburn University later this week, yes this chapter ends, college is a new one and down the line a Super Comp dragster is next! Friday — July 24th

This was a Test & Tune event that got underway with temps in the 90’s and despite the heat a pretty good turnout. Everyone made many passes but around 9 pm a big storm with a lot of lightning was coming toward us and with the lightning strikes getting close we stopped racing a bit early at 9:30 pm. Still a pretty good Test & Tune night.

Saturday — July 25th

The Junior Dragsters kicked off the Summit ET Series racing at 12:30 pm. A J Heiner won over Cameron Boyd and Conner Boyd in his first season racing took third place. This was pretty well attended Test & Tune event on very hot early evening. A nice turnout of fast street cars and full on race cars. The 6.50 Index class was won by Darrell Law over last Street Nite’s winner Howard Lawson, Matt Bowie was third. These three were right on the index all evening long, a really competitive class. Greg Orris won Drive In Street over Devin Belloumini in the finals. A big thanks to all our crew members and all the racers for being with us on a day that most would opt to stay indoors. Yes it’s a hot summer in north central Maryland this year! Again a big thanks to the track staff, from tech to staging lane crew, starting line crew, gate staff, EMT, time slip booth, foodstand, fuel trailer, Cheryl’s Shirt Shack staff and to those of us inside the both starting line buildings and office and of course the management staff too. Did I miss anybody? We had a good event and an outstanding race track to go along with it. We finished up at 9:15 pm.
